Summer is in its dying days, kids are heading back to school and beach holidays are but a distant memory. So let’s look back at August and check in on our activities over at the Uncut Gems Podcast and its Patreon bonus stream.
What we termed 80s Summer Solstice turned its attention from buddy cop fixtures (which we discussed in July) to the 80s exploits of cinema’s foremost daredevil, Jackie Chan himself. We spent the entire month talking about his Hong Kong features from the decade, which included his debut at the Golden Harvest The Young Master, his jazzy and overstuffed Project A, the Sammo Hung-directed Wheels on Meals, the Spielbergian Armour of God and his gangster adaptation of Frank Capra with kung fu, Miracles. We also talked about Police Story on our Patreon and additionally, we guested on The Podcast That Wouldn’t Die, which is also The Podcast You Should Totally Listen To Because It Slaps, where we talked about Drunken Master.

Last but not least, we have finally concluded our long-running Mike Nichols Marathon with a great conversation about Charlie Wilson’s War. In addition to talking about the movie itself and how it remains relevant to this day, we also counted down our favourite movies of his, we recounted what we have learned along the way and also poked a few jabs at the handful of duds Mike Nichols presided over.
