And just like that, another month has been consigned to history and we are officially a third of the way through 2026. Therefore, let’s have a look at all the activities over at the Uncut Gems Podcast and its Patreon bonus stream that took place in April.

This month, having concluded what we termed Fantastical Winter we have embarked on another quarter, this time under the umbrella of comedy. Therefore in April, May and June we will be exploring comedies of the 80s and we began this journey by discussing Robin Williams-starring comedies from that decade. We talked about the Robert Altman-directed Popeye (and boy, was it a conversation), The Survivors, Moscow on the Hudson and Club Paradise, all while trying to triangulate what made Williams tick, how he was used and misused in different projects and eventually how he found his groove in Good Morning Vietnam, which we discussed in a Patreon-exclusive Bonus Tie-in show.

Episode 272 (The Survivors)

Episode 273 (Moscow on the Hudson)

Episode 274 (Club Paradise)

The 80s Icons series we launched this year also happened to tangentially connect to this series (flimsy as this connection might be). We talked about the Sydney Pollack-directed Tootsie, which preceded by a decade Williams’s hit comedy Mrs. Doubtfire. And it was also script-doctored by the show favourite Elaine May.

Last but not least, the Mike Nichols marathon also continued with another episode, in which we officially entered the 21st century with his massive comedic misfire What Planet Are You From?
