March has come to an end. Thanks to what we did over at Uncut Gems Podcast, it was quite a special time. Here’s a summary of what we got up to last month.
Over at the Soderbergh station, we continue our journey by talking about his 1999 The Limey over on the main show, where we talked about Terence Stamp as an agent of introspective vengeance in a deconstructive New Wave take on a 1970s revenge fantasy. In our bonus conversation on our Patreon we interrogated Soderbergh’s foray into prestige filmmaking as we talked about Erin Brockovich, his hybrid take on both All The President’s Men and Rocky.
Episode 110 (The Limey) (Soderbergh Deep Cut)
Soderbergh Shallow Cut 03 (Erin Brockovich) (full episode on Patreon)
As the main theme for the month of March we chose to explore in full the cinema of Brandon Lee. Over the course of four podcasts we talked about all of his feature starring roles working towards a grand finale where – coinciding with the 30th anniversary of his passing – we embarked on a truly emotional and cathartic conversation about The Crow. In addition, we also recorded a bonus conversation tying into this journey where we talked about Game of Death, the last movie ever to star Bruce Lee, Brandon’s iconic father.
Episode 111 (Legacy of Rage and Laser Mission)
Episode 112 (Showdown in Little Tokyo)
Episode 113 (Rapid Fire)
Episode 114 (The Crow)
Bonus Tie-in 19 (Game of Death) (full episode on Patreon)
Also, our 2023 John Cassavetes Marathon continued in March with a conversation about A Child Is Waiting, a movie that stands as a footnote in the man’s filmography but managed to facilitate a truly powerful conversation about parental responsibilities and much more.
