Rarely does it happen when not only do we all agree on a stance towards a film, but also that we’re not exactly positive on it either. But here we are. In this episode we are trying our level best to talk about Ben Wheatley’s Free Fire.
I suppose the conversation would have been different if Jak was present (whose idea it actually was to talk about this movie in the first place) but he was excused, as he was gallivanting around the world and watching great movies at the Venice Film Festival. Good for him! Although, I have a feeling he would like to have been there with us as we were nearly unanimously taking this movie apart, brick by brick, and trying our best to understand why it doesn’t work while it should, how its period setting wasn’t at all utilized, how its premise was nothing more than a gimmick and how the film lacked compelling characters. However, it’s not all bad. But I will leave you to listen to our conversation and make up your own mind as we forensically deconstruct Free Fire and have a lot of fun at its expense.
