The Uncut Gems Podcast – Episode 11 (Bringing Out The Dead) and Episode 12 (The Mummy and The Mummy Returns)

I realize it looks as though I was playing a game of catch-up here, but that’s because I am. I completely forgot to share the recent two episodes of The Uncut Gems Podcast over here, so here I am correcting the record. And it just so happens that they are quite enjoyable to listen to.

As it turns out, we managed to conjure over three hours of discussion when we tackled Martin Scorsese’s Bringing Out The Dead, which at least in my opinion is an unfairly underrated classic with its own uniquely deranged energy. However, as you will find out if you listen to the show, it is also a spiritual successor to Taxi Driver and a thematic bridge to First Reformed. It creates a unique axis of symmetry between these two stories that successfully brings in Paul Schrader’s voice into the equation as well. It is a fascinating movie to talk about and I hope we did it justice… that is until the conversation went off the deep end into ‘six degrees of Roman Polanski’ territory, which in itself is an interesting tangent, though (almost completely unrelated. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.

And here’s episode number twelve where we handled the entire The Mummy trilogy despite originally intending to stop at The Mummy Returns. You might wonder how these films fall into a category of something orphaned, forgotten or underrated because they were immensely successful and defined many a childhood in the Gen-Z demographic. And you are probably correct, but we also have established what I hope will become a tradition on the show as this was Alina’s birthday wish to talk about these movies. So we did! Admittedly, some are better than others and I think I was the only strange voice of cautious dissent in the conversation, but the episode is well worth listening to if you’re into impromptu fan theories, passionate monologues and scathing takedowns. Tune in and have fun with us.
