Another month has officially become history. This means that it is as good a time as any to round up all activities at the Uncut Gems Podcast and its Patreon bonus stream.

February 2026 saw us persevere in our commitment to devote the entire year to twelve different flavours of 80s cinema. We jumped from discussing 80s fantasy movies over to the subgenre of science-fiction dystopia, which was also pronounced at this time. Naturally, some decisions had to be made and we didn’t get to talk about everything we’d like to, but the line-up of movies we chose for this month was, dare I say, as intriguing as it was challenging and for the most part very fun to visit. Therefore, we went through such classics as Blade Runner and Brazil, stopped over to talk about a few John Carpenter films (Escape from New York and They Live) and finally added a stimulating conversation about the anime classic Akira. Over on our Patreon we chose to tie into this series with a wonderful conversation about an all-time classic of the genre, the 1987 Robocop.

The 2026-specific series we called 80s Icons, which is really a glorified excuse to watch twelve more great 80s movies, continued with a genre classic that also somehow tied into the topic of sci-fi dystopias (albeit distally), namely the James Cameron-directed The Terminator.

Last but not least, our Mike Nichols marathon continued with a conversation about the man’s biggest hit of the 1990s and maybe ever, the 1996 The Birdcage.
