Wouldn’t you believe it? Summer is almost at its halfway mark and another month has been committed to history. This means it’s a good idea to take a little look at what we have been up to over at the Uncut Gems Podcast and its Patreon bonus content.
We decided to commit the month of July to discussions surrounding the cinema of Richard Lester, an American-born filmmaker who ended up spending the bulk of his career in the UK. This also partially coincided with the long-awaited release of James Gunn’s Superman as Lester is known for having directed two of the sequels in the original run of Superman movies starring Christopher Reeve. Naturally, we jumped on this opportunity and devoted an entire episode to Superman II and Superman III, while we also earmarked this month’s bonus tie-in show for a great chat about the original Richard Donner-directed Superman The Movie. In addition, we talked about Robin and Marian, Cuba and Juggernaut to complete the set of Lester conversations
Episode 232 (Juggernaut)
Episode 233 (Robin and Marian)
Episode 234 (Cuba)
Episode 235 (Superman II and Superman III)
Bonus Tie-in 50 (Superman) (full episode on Patreon)
The 50-30 Series 07 (Jaws) (full episode on Patreon)
Our 50-30 series continued this month with its arguable climax, which is an epic conversation about Steven Spielberg’s Jaws. We celebrated the 50th anniversary of this amazing movie by leaving absolutely no stone unturned and engaging with the movie like nobody else around.
Finally, the Mike Nichols marathon added another episode in which we talked about his return from the cold, a piece of crusader realism starring Meryl Streep and written by Nora Ephron, Silkwood.
