With March in the rearview mirror, it’s time to summarize what happened over at the Uncut Gems Podcast last month, which includes both the main show and the associated Patreon channel.
As per newly-established tradition, we began the month’s deliberations by adding a few notches to our Spike Lee Joint-a-thon, a project where we talk about Spike Lee’s lesser known movies on the main show (Small Joints), and where we discuss his big hitters on our Patreon (Major Joints). This month, we talked about Mo’ Better Blues and Do the Right Thing!
Episode 162 (Mo’ Better Blues)
Spike Lee’s Major Joint 02 (Do the Right Thing) (full episode on Patreon)
Having stopped over at the Lee station, we then continued with the chosen theme for the month of March, which we affectionately referred to as Spring Clinging, a monthly exploration of obsession and unhealthy attachment. To this end, we talked about Ingrid Goes West, The Fanatic, The Crush and The Fan where we dived into conversations about the dangers of social media, building carousels in the attic, portrayal of autism on screen and how Tony Scott’s aesthetic developed in the mid-90s. As a Patreon-exclusive tie-in we chose to talk about Rob Reiner’s adaptation of the Stephen King novel Misery.
Episode 163 (Ingrid Goes West)
Episode 164 (The Fanatic)
Episode 165 (The Crush)
Episode 166 (The Fan)
Bonus Tie-in 32 (Misery) (full episode on Patreon)
Last, but by no means least, we touched base with our 2024 Kathryn Bigelow director marathon, where we talked about her third feature Blue Steel, a moody police procedural that divided our opinions in more ways than one.
