With September now behind us, here’s what we have been up to over at Uncut Gems Podcast over the course of last month.
As per 2023 tradition, we opened by adding a few new notches to our Soderbergh belt, as we talked about two movies he directed before heading into a short-lived retirement (during which he stayed abnormally active, by the way). We spent a few good hours talking about Liberace and Behind the Candelabra, and we also left gave it our best shot to re-evaluate Side Effects in our Patreon-exclusive add-on episode.

Because September is my birthday month, I managed to steer the choice of the main theme for the month to talk about my childhood hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Therefore, we chose to talk about a bunch of his movies, all from the 80s, that somehow didn’t resonate with the audiences the way his biggest successes did. And they all started with the letter ‘R’. So, we talked about Red Sonja, Raw Deal, The Running Man and Red Heat, while tying into the series with a bonus conversation about the movie which put Arnie on the celestial map of superstars – Conan the Barbarian. And it was all glorious.
