Here’s a short summary of everything that happened over the course of June 2023 on Uncut Gems Podcast, both on our widely available main show and our various Patreon-exclusive projects!

Our 2023 comprehensive Soderbergh project continued this month with a duet of recordings, where on our main show we discussed The Good German, a 1940s-style experiment in noir filmmaking, as well as Che, his two-part epic starring Benicio Del Toro.

In June, we decided to devote the month to the idea of celebrating the 30th anniversary of the release of Jurassic Park, but with a domino gimmick. To this end, we recorded a Patreon conversation on Jurassic Park itself and paired it with a main show recording on the other dino-release of 1993 – Carnosaur. From there, we fell right into a series of episodes connected in some way to Michael Crichton, which included Westworld, its follow-up Future world, The Andromeda Strain and Coma. We also recorded a bonus bonus tie-in on Raiders of the Lost Ark connecting to Jurassic Park by way of Steven Spielberg and also connecting to the June theatrical release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Finally, we finished the month by adding a chapter to our ongoing conversation about the cinema of John Cassavetes where we talked about Minnie and Moskowitz, which was an excuse to discuss the fakery of Hollywood, the autobiographical nature of this movie, the anti-rom-com appeal of it and, of course, Seymour Cassel’s moustache.
