With the end of the year just about entering our field of vision and November already behind us, it is time we sat down and pooled together everything that happened over at the Uncut Gems Podcast and its Patreon bonus stream.

This month ended up being just a tiny bit more special than all the others as the show celebrated its 250th main episode, which we decided to mark with a small celebration and a cheeky game of Uncut Gems trivia. This was of course merely an add-on to our relentless pursuit of deep conversation about great movies, many of which may not be discussed as much elsewhere and this month – to observe the long-standing Letterboxd tradition of Noir-vember, we chose to talk about the early movies directed by John Dahl, how they capitalized on the noir template and how they fit in the shifting landscapes of the 90s indie revolution. We spoke about Kill Me Again, Red Rock West, The Last Seduction, Unforgettable and Rounders. We also chose to tie into these conversations with a bonus Patreon podcast where we talked about the highly influential piece of 90’s noir, Bound.

Episode 249 (Kill Me Again)

Episode 250 (Red Rock West)

Episode 251 (The Last Seduction)

Episode 252 (Unforgettable)

Episode 253 (Rounders)

Bonus Tie-in 54 (Bound) (full episode on Patreon)

Keeping with our noir vibes, the 50-30 Series was extended by another episode in which we talked about our final pick of 1975, which is Arthur Penn’s Night Moves.

Finally, the Mike Nichols marathon added another notch onto its belt with a wonderful, if not a bit divided, conversation about the adaptation of Carrie Fisher’s debut novel Postcards from the Edge.
