With March officially in the past, spring is now in full effect. It is also as good a time as any to look back at the previous month and round up all activities over at the Uncut Gems Podcast and its Patreon bonus stream as well.

In March our 2026 project of diving deep into the bin of 1980s cinema extended to a good selection of science-fiction comedies from the era. This also concluded the first thematic quarter that we referred to as Fantastical Winter. Out of the veritable myriad of potentially interesting movies to talk about that also fit the description of sci-fi comedies, we chose such oddities as Short Circuit, Howard the Duck and Innerspace and we finished on a more well-known cult classic Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. At the same time we also promised ourselves that at some point in the future we should also find time to discuss Space Camp, Buckaroo Banzai, Explorers, Cocoon and others. There’s honestly too many to choose from and it was quite painful to leave some of these titles out.

In any case, over on the Patreon side of our operation, we tied into these conversation with an exclusive Bonus podcast about the 1987 Spaceballs.

Episode 267 (Short Circuit)

Episode 268 (Howard the Duck)

Episode 269 (Innerspace)

Episode 270 (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure)

Bonus Tie-in 58 (Spaceballs) (full episode on Patreon)

Our new 2026 series of 80s Icons also found its way to celebrate the sci-fi comedy hybrid as we decided to devote this month’s episode to a great conversation about one of the ultimate 80’s classic, the Robert Zemeckis-directed Back to the Future.

Finally, the Mike Nichols marathon added another notch to its belt as we talked about another Nichols and May reunification project, namely the political drama with some May-esque witty snark to it, Primary Colors.
